Concealed Handgun Permit Requirements: Applicant Must: - Be twenty one (21) years of age. - Be a resident of North Carolina for a minimum of thirty (30) days. - Be a citizen or naturalized citizen of the United States of America. - Not suffer from any mental or physical infirmity which would prevent safe handgun operation. - Provide a valid NC drivers license or other picture ID with current address provided by the state of North Carolina. - Has not been discharged from the Armed Forces under conditions other than honorable. - Upon completion of this firearms training and safety course here at North Carolina Gun Training Academy, you will be provided with a completion certificate that you will need to present to the Sheriffs Department in your county when applying for the concealed carry permit. - Applicant must make an appointment with the sheriffs department to apply for the permit. - In addition to the cost of this Concealed Carry Course, a Concealed Weapon Permit requires a $90 non-refundable fee (which includes a $10 fingerprint fee) payable by cash, money order or certified check to your local sheriffs department. If paying with cash, please bring the exact amount. Personal checks are not accepted. - Prior military who have been honorably discharge must present the original DD-214. - Applicant must apply in person at the local sheriffs department and have this training certificate and a valid picture ID (NC drivers license or other picture ID with currrent address provided by the state of North Carolina) - A criminal background check performed by the sheriffs department takes approximately 90 days and must be performed before granting of the permit. Ineligibility for Concealed Handgun Permit Persons not eligible include anyone: - found guilty or received a prayer for judgment continued or suspended sentence for any crimes of violence or misdemeanor assaults as by General Statues - under indictment or against whom a finding of probable cause exists for a felony - found guilty in any court for a felony - receiving a prayer for judgment continued for any criminal offense which disqualifies a person from receiving a Concealed Handgun Permit - who is a fugitive from justice - who is an unlawful user of or addicted to illegal drugs - discharged from the armed forces for other than honorable reasons - who has been ruled mentally ill - ineligible to own, possess or receive a firearm under the provisions of state or federal law - free on bond or personal recognizance pending trail, appeal or sentencing for a crime which disqualifies a person from receiving a Concealed Handgun Permit - Convicted of an impaired driving offense within three (3) years prior to application date
